"Help Your Body Heal From Injury" |
|

If you are suffering from soft tissue
injuries that just won't seem to go away, you aren't alone.
While most people associate soft
tissue injuries with athletes and those who have been in accidents, the truth is
that soft tissue injuries affect just about everyone, of all gender and ages,
from all walks of life.
While athletes certainly experience
their fair share of soft tissue injuries, so do gardeners, desk workers,
drivers... the list goes on and on!
What exactly is a soft tissue injury?
A soft tissue injury is any injury
that occurs to the muscles, tendons, or ligaments in the body. These include
sprains, strains, and tears.
In some cases soft tissue injuries
resolve themselves. But more often than not, soft tissue injuries that aren't
treated become chronic.
Most soft tissue injuries are initially treated with a course of R.I.C.E.
This acronym stands for rest, ice, compression, and elevation.
Medications designed to reduce
swelling and pain may also be prescribed, as may some physical therapy
modalities such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation.
But did you know that massage therapy is one of the best things you can do your
body to help ideal with soft tissue injuries?
That's because massage helps to relax
tight muscles, lengthen tight muscles, and get your blood flowing... all things
that help with recovery.
If you are suffering from a soft tissue injury, set up an appointment with us to
find out how we can help.

A
Personal Note From
First, let me tell you that Yoga is CANCELED for 3/9/10- our instructor cannot be there that day!
While I'm writing this newsletter, it's in the morning and it's soooo SUNNY ;-) outside! It makes me think of Spring and March Madness.
Speaking of Madness- thanks for the awesome response to the "Mike's Birthday Special" from last Saturday. It only took 30 minutes to fill up the initial spots that day, so I apologize to the many people who were on the waiting list- no one cancelled that day. If you were on the waiting list for the day, send me an email at mike@ukneadme.com and let me know about it- I'll email you something special...
I'm currently putting together a March Madness Massage Referral Promotion- look for it at www.madisonmassage.net/march2010.htm starting 3/8/10 at 9pm- you won't believe the awesome promotion I'm putting together for you. Think about those people you know who are in pain that you've been telling about us because it will be easier to refer them to us with this promotion. Now, don't try to look before 3/8 9pm, it won't exist yet!
Our Next Newsletter is changing formats- I'm going to switch to a new system to give us more flexibility in what items you see on this page. Look for a change in looks and content in April and thank you to those people who have provided me with feedback about this style of newsletter.
-Mike

"Do You Have Foot Pain?" |
|

During the warmer months feet that
are hidden away are suddenly on display in sandals, flip flops, and other
summery shoes.
While it feels great to expose your
toes to the open air, foot pain is a common complaint in summer.
Why is foot pain common in summer?
Well, new shoes can cause blisters
and calluses. In addition, summer shoes tend to be significantly less supportive
than shoes worn in colder months.
If you are suffering from foot pain, there are a number of steps—no pun
intended!—that you should take:
Make sure that your shoes fit well. If shoes are rubbing, pinching, or causing
calluses and blisters, that's a clear sign that the fit is not good.
Avoid shoes with no support.
Many flip-flops and sandals are flat
with absolutely no support whatsoever, which can cause pain in the arch and
heels.
However, there are many summer shoes
on the market that do have support.
Talk to a reputable shoe seller who
specializes in quality shoes; he or she can tell you which models suit your
feet.
If you continue to be troubled by recurring foot pain, make an appointment..
Massage can help aid your body
to overcome foot troubles that, unresolved, may cause ankle, leg, knee, hip, and
back issues.
Don't ignore foot pain! Remember to
be nice to your feet. They support you! |

"5
Steps To Glowing Summer Skin"

While summer is one of the
best times of year, it's also the time of year
in which injuries and accidents most often
occur.
As a matter of fact, there
are more trips to the emergency room during the
summer than in any other season.
To ensure that your summer is
safe for you and your family, follow the six
tips below.
Tip #1: Practice good water habits.
Children should always be
supervised, and wearing age-appropriate
flotation devices. To avoid the spread of
illness, people with diarrhea should never swim.
Never swallow pool or pond water, to avoid
bacteria-borne illnesses.
Tip #2: Wear
sunscreen.
Apply a liberal amount of
sunscreen to you and your family members every
day. Even when the sun isn't shining, your skin
can be harmed by powerful UVA and UVB rays.
Tip #3: Keep yourself
and your family safe from insect bites.
Insect bites are not only
painful and annoying, but they can sometimes
carry disease. There are a wide variety of safe
and effective insect repellents on the market,
including many that are all natural.
Tip #4: Protect
yourself from foodborne illness and food
poisoning, which tends to increase during the
months when weather is warmer.
Whether you are at a picnic,
barbecue, or camping, be sure to frequently wash
your hands and the surfaces that food touches.
Take care to cook food to the
proper temperature, and refrigerate it promptly.
Tip #5: Make sure you
are seen.
The longer days and warmer
weather mean that we're outside more than ever.
Because it's the coolest time of day, many
people prefer to exercise outside at dusk or
early evening.
Whether you are biking,
running, or just taking a walk, protect yourself
and family members by making sure that
reflective clothing is worn.
Tip #6: Make an
appointment with us for your regular massage
therapy.
Healthy muscles help to keep your
body in tip-top shape, which
allows you to meet summer head-on in optimal
shape.
